About Jessica Asam, LMHC

Jessica Asam

I am a licensed mental health counselor who has worked in multiple clinical settings with various populations. I earned my undergraduate degree in psychology and a master's degree in mental health and rehabilitation counseling. I have worked in the field for approximately eight years in varying arenas, including residential and outpatient treatment facilities, non-profit behavioral health agencies, and group counseling centers. I appreciate working with clients who are navigating existential crises - those who are looking for a better understanding to the meaning of life. I value establishing a trusting relationship with my clients and helping them identify cognitive distortions that may be negatively affecting their thinking processes. This experience can help clients identify and break negative or unhealthy patterns in their lives. I am a firm believer in the power of perception-shifting in order to identify a silver lining in even the most difficult situations. My therapeutic approach is dynamic and eclectic. I value various therapeutic approaches, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused counseling. My goal with all of my clients is to walk beside them through their struggles and help them come to their own conclusions. I do not believe that I have all the answers, but I know my clients have the power to find their own way with supportive guidance. My professional goal in the near future is to become certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), so I can better help clients who feel trapped by trauma.
