Brooke Keffner, LMHC
Hello, my name is Brooke Keffner. You can read more about my education and training below. I was born and raised in New Jersey, moving to Florida in 2012, where I met my husband in 2015. We eventually settled in St. Lucie County after spending several years together in Palm Beach County. Currently, we have the pleasure of living in a peaceful space that we love and can connect with nature in, along with my stepson and our dog, George Harrison (big Beatles fans here!). I realize the journey of deciding on whether therapy is right for you is tough enough in and of itself, and then once you decide on giving it a try, the task of finding the right therapist can feel daunting. I am hoping that I can help you decide if I may be the right therapist for you. It is my belief that the therapeutic relationship is sacred, and finding the right fit makes all the difference on your pathway to wellness.
Are you looking around at your life and circumstances and wondering why you still feel unhappy or lacking in some way? Are you facing a major challenge that feels like it has changed everything, and you don’t know what to do? Have you tried therapy before and feel like you have the insight to help yourself but still feel stuck? Are you new to therapy and uncertain about how it could help or whether it will fundamentally change who you are? Are you someone who feels stuck in your head? Are you a sensitive and creative soul who feels stunted and stuck in the “rat race” of life? I have been in these difficult spaces myself, and though our circumstances and personal journeys are certainly different, I believe I can help you from a place of combined professional and personal experience. Cookie cutter approaches to healing never helped me, and maybe they’re not for you either. And that’s okay! I specialize in coming from a curious, creative, and holistic space, and I’d love to have the honor of walking beside you as you explore new avenues to your healing.
I am a licensed mental health counselor and board-certified art therapist who works with individuals, couples, and families from adolescence through older adulthood. I work with clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, substance use, eating disorders, trauma, family or relationship conflict and more, using a variety of treatment modalities from traditional talk therapy to art therapy to mind-body approaches. My goal is to help you find the right “recipe” for healing for you. Many of my clients express an interest in using a variety of approaches to address their therapeutic work from all sides. And some choose one specific approach that fits best for them. It is my belief that you are the guide and the expert on your life and that I can be there to help you take ownership of that while building upon your inherent strengths.
I am always on the path to learning myself and stay mindful of the impact of my growth as a therapist on my clients’ growth. Because of this I continue my education and learning on a consistent basis through professional organizations to ensure that I can offer a variety of avenues to wellness to you. I am a certified addiction professional (CAP) and an internationally certified drug and alcohol counselor (ICADC). I am trained in eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR) and working toward becoming certified. My therapeutic approach pulls from all the avenues I’ve mentioned with a consistent client-centered and strengths-based orientation. I want to help you truly know who you are and help you find to the right approach to harness your gifts and find your peace. All of this, of course, begins in building our relationship as therapist and client and finding our rhythm in working together. I believe that we are all walking on the same plane and are all fundamentally seeking a safe space to develop a connection with ourselves and with others. Our client-therapist relationship is key in embracing this process.
My favorite quote (by my favorite author) is this: “To live only for some future goal is shallow. It’s the sides of the mountain that sustain life. Not the top.” – Robert M. Pirsig. I believe this to be true on a very deep and personal level. It’s the journey, it’s what we experience and gain along the way toward our ever-changing goals that makes us who we are and offers us the opportunity to heal and grow. I would not be who I am today if not for the experiences that have shaped me, good or bad, right, or wrong. It’s all part of my story. I’d love to have the opportunity and honor to walk alongside you in the unfolding of your story.
