  • Jeanine “Nina” Scott Barela, LMHC

    Therapist

Nina works to support and empower women and adolescent girls. Nina can help you to shift away from the limiting beliefs of feeling lack, less and broken towards a belief system that includes healing, peace and power. Nina provides an environment of resources, stability, and tools for you to move past your anxiety, panic, depression, and any underlying trauma that is fueling this misalignment.

You are enough, You are an asset to the world and those around you, You are heard.

Sometimes we develop limiting stories about ourselves in our lives based on negative experiences. Nina will work with you to change your story to one that represents who you really are and that fosters your growth and development.

Nina enjoys working with healthcare professionals especially those in the behavioral health field.  An integral part of Nina’s belief system is that mental health is important for all of us to attend to, especially those in the behavioral health field. Unfortunately, behavioral health clinicians may face added barriers in accessing services. With Nina’s experience in the management of counselors, she is aware of the strain and burnout that can accompany being a people helper and the importance of self-care and emotional and stress management for those in the helping field. Her credential as a qualified supervisor also provides a safe and confidential space for healthcare professionals to garner the much-needed support and resources to allow for you to optimize your journey of helping others.

Nina (she/her) believes that everyone has the incredible gift of resilience. She has over a decade’s worth of post-Master’s experience working in the mental health field including working with children and adults in crisis, individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and individuals with a history of trauma, anxiety and depression. She has extensive knowledge and experience with crisis intervention, trauma informed care, individual and group therapy, and effective treatment planning. Nina has worked with children, adolescents and adults who are survivors of trauma and abuse.

Nina began her behavioral health career advocating for women and children at a Domestic Violence shelter. During that time Nina worked with women and children survivors of interpersonal violence and provided individual and group therapy support and psychosocial groups, to transition individuals to a life free from abuse.

After earning a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling at Nova Southeastern University, Nina worked with adults and children experiencing crisis and provided crisis de-escalation and individual therapy for adults and children with severe and persistent mental illness. She also provided intensive individual and group therapy services to individuals with anxiety, depression and survivors of trauma in residential treatment. During this time Nina qualified as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and completed specialized training in various trauma-focused therapy modalities.

Nina has been working in the field of telehealth behavioral services since 2016 and can provide a professional and comfortable therapeutic experience for you from the comfort of your own home.

Nina is a certified Therapist in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing; and utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Rapid Resolution Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy in her work with clients. Nina currently specializes in working with individuals who are survivors of trauma, and individuals who are experiencing depressive disorders and anxiety disorders.

Nina’s therapeutic approach is to provide a safe and empathic place for individuals to explore themselves and their emotional difficulties. Once issues have been identified through collaborative treatment planning, Nina takes the role of empowering individuals with coping skills and tools in order to effectively manage their emotional discord. As your therapist she will foster and nurture your own resilience so that you can find within yourself the power to heal. By empowering you with the tools you need to mitigate symptoms, your difficulties can be resolved. You do not have to continue to struggle alone. Nina can provide you with the setting to hear you and guide you to wellness.

Nina believes in the power of movement as good for mind and body and she loves the outdoors. Nina enjoys jogging, hiking and walking her two dogs. Nina is an advocate for the human race as an equal people and is an advocate for self-expression, women’s rights and that love is love. Nina honors individuals’ gender identities, sexual orientations and the racial, cultural and religious values of all.
