Are you tired of being tired? Are you in need of change? Do you feel as if your childhood is creeping into your adult life? When we, human beings, experience trauma or severe life stressors, it is not uncommon for our lives to unravel. My passion is to bring healing to people who have experienced a life stressor that has caused an unbalance in their daily functioning. I help clients, who include adolescents, adults, and families find a healthy way of coping with life.

My name is Maria Brooks, and you can read more about my education and training below. I was born and raised in Miami, FL with a little countryside/military background as I lived in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina for several years. I am married and have two-beautiful children. While in North Carolina, I obtained my Early Childhood credential. I worked with preschoolers and adolescents for five years before moving back to Miami. Upon returning to Miami, I realized many were “trapped in a cycle” where they were unable to be their true self around family or friends; It was taboo to talk about feelings/emotions. For this reason, I decided to go back to school and obtain a master’s degree from Barry University. I want to provide a safe space where you do not feel judged or embarrassed to be vulnerable. I am passionate about the work I do, and I am fully committed to walking this journey called life with you. Together, we will work towards achievable goals that best suits YOU.

There is no “one size fit all,” for every individual is unique in their own way. For that reason, I have been trained in a range of modalities such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness, 12-step program (NA/AA), Motivational Interviewing, Spirituality, and more. By utilizing evidenced based modalities, I enjoy empowering youth, individuals, and families to overcome anything that they may face. The mind is both complex and powerful, but it is true what has been said, “You can do anything you set our mind to do.” One of my favorite quotes is: “How much pain have cost us the evils which have never happened.” Thomas Jefferson

Whether it is stress, family issues, substance abuse, trauma, or social anxiety- make the change today.

I am fluent in English and Spanish.
