Taylor Forster, LMHC
Making the decision to go to therapy, and then finding a therapist, can be challenging, vulnerable, maybe even scary, but most of all courageous. Some of the questions we ask ourselves when looking for a therapist include “What if I don’t like them?” “What if they judge me?” and “Will they actually help me?” These questions come from that vulnerability, that place where we are opening ourselves up and asking for help. I’m hoping to make this decision a little easier, and hoping we can work together to get you where you want to be!
My name is Taylor Forster, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida. I grew up here in South Florida, and currently live with my cat Neville, who you may see pop up in sessions from time to time. I am a big fan of Harry Potter, hence my cat’s name, and you can see me quote the series occasionally in sessions. I like to spend my free time with friends and family, or sitting on my couch with Neville watching a movie. As a therapist, I aim to be compassionate, understanding, empathetic, and most of all, authentic with my clients. If you are looking for a therapist to be direct with you, to challenge your ways of thinking, I am the therapist for you. I create a judgment-free space within sessions, and provide a place for you to feel heard and seen. I am passionate about my work, and I am committed to being by your side throughout this process, here to listen and help you move forward on your journey.
Maybe you are feeling low, struggling to get out of bed each day and feeling unmotivated. Maybe you are feeling stressed out, anxious, and like you need to have a plan for everything to get through your day. Maybe you struggle with food and eating behaviors, or you have a hard time looking in the mirror. Maybe you find yourself acting impulsively, or angrily, or even just out of character for you. With any of these struggles and challenges, as well as many others, I see you. I hear you. I am here for you. I am here to help you navigate these challenges, and make the changes you need and desire to be able to live your best life. I enjoy helping clients better understand themselves, and understand how to live and respond to those around them. In therapy with me, the initial focus is placed on building rapport and strengthening the therapeutic relationship, as comfort and openness is key to a successful therapeutic relationship. The goal of therapy is to understand the behaviors of concern, why clients engage in these behaviors, modify the behaviors if possible, and accept what is unable to be changed.
I received a Master’s Degree in Counseling Education, specializing in Mental Health Counseling from Florida Atlantic University. I have previously worked in residential settings for eating disorders, as well as in a specialized therapeutic group home for children and adolescents in foster care with behavioral and mental disorders. I currently work with individuals ages 11 and up, and my areas of focus include, but are not limited to, depression, anxiety, anger management, gender identity, and eating disorders. My therapeutic approach is eclectic, as I utilize various interventions based on what my clients need. I utilize CBT, DBT, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, as well as motivational approaches and mindfulness. Throughout our time together, I will meet you where you are in your treatment process, and guide you through every step as needed, until you can independently make choices that bring you to the best you. The first session is getting to know one another, and I hope for you to leave the initial session feeling comfortable and hopeful.
