Brooke Keffner, LMHC
Hello, my name is Brooke Keffner. You can read more about my education and training below. I was born and raised in New Jersey but I am a rambler at heart and have loved living and working in FL, IN, NJ, and PA (so far). Currently, I have the pleasure of living in a peaceful space along with my husband and our dog, George Harrison (big Beatles fans here!). I realize the journey of deciding on whether therapy is right for you is tough enough, in and of itself, and then once you do decide to give it a try, the task of finding the right therapist can feel daunting. I am hoping that I can help you decide if I may be the right therapist for you. And if I’m not, I want to help you find the right one. It is my belief that the therapeutic relationship is sacred, and finding the right fit for you makes all the difference on your pathway to wellness.
Are you looking around at your life and circumstances and wondering why you still feel unhappy or lacking in some way? Are you facing a major challenge that feels like it has changed everything, and you don’t know what to do? Are you “stuck” in a pattern of relationship dynamics that never seems to work out? Have you tried therapy before and feel like you have the insight to help yourself, yet you still feel stuck? Are you new to therapy and uncertain about how it could help or whether it will fundamentally change who you are? Are you someone who feels trapped in your head? Are you a sensitive and creative soul who feels stunted and stifled in the “rat race” of life? I have been in many of these difficult spaces myself, and though our circumstances and personal journeys are certainly different, I believe I can help you from a place of combined professional and personal experience. Cookie cutter approaches to healing never really helped me, and maybe they’re not for you either. Contrary to popular belief - that’s okay! I specialize in coming from a curious, creative, humanistic and holistic space, and I’d love to have the honor of walking beside you as you explore new avenues to your healing.
I am a licensed mental health counselor and board-certified art therapist who works with individuals, couples, and families from adolescence through older adulthood. My specialty lies in working with young adults of all genders (18-40) and young couples/families. Though I happily work outside of this range for clients who are a good fit. I work well with clients who struggle with trauma, anxiety, depression, other mood disorders, substance use, eating disorders, family or relationship conflict and more, using a variety of treatment modalities from traditional talk therapy to art therapy to mind-body focused approaches. My goal is to help you find the right “recipe” for healing for you. Many of my clients express an interest in using a variety of approaches to address their therapeutic work from many angles. And some clients choose one specific approach that fits best for them. It is my belief that you are the guide and the expert on your life and that I can be there to help you take ownership of that while building upon your inherent strengths.
I am always on the path to learning myself and stay mindful of the impact of my growth as a therapist on my clients’ growth. Because of this I continue my education and learning on a consistent basis through professional organizations to ensure that I can offer a variety of avenues to wellness to you. I am a certified addiction professional (CAP) and an internationally certified drug and alcohol counselor (ICADC). I am trained in eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR). My creative therapy/art therapy based educational foundation drives my outside of the box/metaphorical instincts backed by sound evidenced based understanding. My therapeutic approach pulls from all of the avenues I’ve mentioned with a consistent client-centered and strengths-based orientation. I want to help you truly learn to know who you are and help you find to the right approach to harness your gifts and find your peace and reach your goals. All of this, of course, begins in building our relationship as therapist and client and finding our rhythm in working together. I believe that we are all walking on the same plane and are all fundamentally seeking a safe space to develop a connection with ourselves and with others. Our client-therapist relationship is key in embracing this process.
My favorite quote (by my favorite author) is this: “To live only for some future goal is shallow. It’s the sides of the mountain that sustain life. Not the top.” – Robert M. Pirsig. I believe this to be true on a very deep and personal level. It’s the journey, it’s what we experience and gain along the way as we move toward our ever-changing goals that makes us who we are and offers us the opportunity to heal and grow. I would not be who I am today if not for the experiences that have shaped me, good or bad, right, or wrong. It’s all part of my story. I’d love to have the opportunity and honor to walk alongside you in the unfolding of your story.
