  • Jessica Asam, LMHC

My name is Jessica Asam, but everyone calls me Jess. I grew up in South East Florida and spent most of my adult life there. About five years ago, my husband and I decided to trade the ocean for the mountains, so we moved to downtown Denver, Colorado. I have always valued nature and find inner peace when I am camping in the Rocky Mountains, just as I did listening to the waves crash at the beach back home. I return to Florida as often as I can to visit with family and friends. I am a lover of all animals and currently have two cats who are sister and brother from the same litter – Lucy and Leon.

As a therapist, I value establishing a trusting relationship with my clients and helping them identify false beliefs that may be negatively affecting their thinking processes. This experience can help clients identify and break negative or unhealthy patterns in their lives. I am a firm believer in the power of perception-shifting in order to identify a purpose in even the most difficult situations. I appreciate working with clients who are navigating existential crises – those who are looking for a better understanding to the meaning or purpose of life. I work with adults, adolescents aged sixteen or over, couples and families. I have recently been working more with individuals and couples who have polyamorous relationships and find that I tend to be a good fit for these clients as well.

My therapeutic approach is dynamic and eclectic. I utilize various therapeutic approaches, including existential therapy, client-centered therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and holistic approaches to health and wellness. My main goal with clients is to walk beside them through their struggles and support them as they come to their own conclusions. I do not believe that I have all the answers, but I know my clients have the power to find their own way with supportive guidance
I am a licensed mental health counselor who has worked in multiple clinical settings with various populations. I earned an undergraduate degree in psychology and a master’s degree in mental health and rehabilitation counseling at Florida Atlantic University in 2013. I have worked in the field for approximately nine years in varying arenas, including residential and outpatient treatment facilities, non-profit behavioral health agencies, and group counseling centers. Since relocating, I have become licensed in Colorado as a Licensed Professional Counselor. However, I still maintain my licensure in Florida as well. I recently spent a year working directly with the Native American Population in Denver, which truly solidified my belief in the importance of incorporating culture and spirituality into therapy. I also recently completed training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), so I feel better prepared to help clients who feel trapped by their trauma. I also have a lot of experience working with individuals who have struggled with substance misuse.
