Allison Zaretski, LMHC
I am a licensed mental health therapist, certified rehabilitation counselor and trauma therapist, specializing in working with clients who have co-occurring disorders. I graduated with my Masters Degree from Florida Atlantic University and interned at The Lighthouse of Fort Lauderdale for people with visual impairments and also at an in-patient treatment center for people with dual diagnosis issues. I worked as a primary therapist and as a clinical director for the past ten years, assisting people with substance abuse and mental health issues. I made the decision to transition to private practice work about two years ago, due to a desire for change and wanting to work with a broader population of people. I typically work with young adults and adults struggling with adjustment issues related to chronic health issues, depression, anxiety, substance abuse issues, unresolved grief, relationship issues, lack of self-esteem and/or self-worth.
I always approach therapy from a client-centered approach. My goal is to help clients navigate their struggles by utilizing Solution Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behavior Therapy, so that they can learn the proper coping skills to overcome life’s difficulties successfully and independently. Everyone’s struggles are unique and require individualized therapy. I never take a cookie-cutter approach to therapy. We can’t keep doing the same thing and expect different results, right? I am a spiritual person and truly believe in the philosophy of Logotherapy. The basic tenets of logotherapy are that all human life has meaning and humans have the potential to experience meaning under any and every circumstance (Schulenberg, 2003). My goal is to assist clients to search for their reason for living and also for their suffering. Upon doing so, we can hopefully find acceptance, purpose and peace within our struggles.
